Unseen is an ongoing project, currently presented as a triptych, exploring themes of surveillance and control. Each display is Dibond-mounted, and fastened a few inches from the wall to give it an architectural presence. Using pinhole cameras left unattended across the University of Victoria’s campus, I create long exposures lasting from one to six hours. The resulting negative prints blur spatial boundaries, often capturing ghostly imprints of people.
The unpredictability of the final image is central to the work. Unaware individuals often move or adjust the cameras, transforming the photographs into co-created narratives. In an era of rapid digital consumption, deep and deliberate engagement is more crucial than ever. The ambiguity of these prints encourages viewers to slow down and reconsider how they process visual information.
I invite viewers to challenge their roles as both observers and participants, particularly within public environments shaped by ambiguous forces of control.
